Your therapist is obviously not thinking about you .. and you have every right to feel abandoned by her! It wasn’t your responsibility to ask about vacations — it was hers to inform you of her intentions.

She should have set you up with a different therapist while she is away, she’s obviously not as empathetic or in-tune with her patients as a therapist should be.

What Jenni said — you should probably talk to her about getting a different therapist.. and I’d make it clear how hurt you are that she didn’t think of you (her patient) when she made her plans.. and that you felt abandoned and left out in the woods when she didn’t even think of setting you up with someone else to talk to…

Ignore the people who are nay-saying you.. you can’t help the way you feel about this and have every right to be upset.

Your therapist has an obligation to her patients’ well-being. She should consider the effect her absence will have on her patients. If she is going to continue taking extensive vacations, she should make arrangements for her patients to be seen by another therapist if needed. If I were you, I would go to a different therapist that doesn’t take such lengthy vacations. The next time you see her, discuss the situation with her. She may not realize that her actions are causing such stress to you and likely others as well. If she isn’t responsible enough to provide you with options while she is away, or if she just wants to play therapist when it’s convenient for her, then maybe she should consider another line of work. Your health is important, and you should always be proactive in preserving and enriching it. =)

Your therapist if obviously more interested in her mental health than in yours. You should consider changing therapists. The last thing you need is to feel abandoned by someone who is supposed to be helping you.

no shes allowed a vacation since shes a hard working citizen just like anyone else. Why dont you request to see another theratist during the time that your normal one is away? I think that if another therapist could help you even half as much as your normal one could, then you could get through the month. What about talking to a parrent or close friend during that time as well or even writing out your thoughts in a diary? Also most ppl take vacays during or near the summer months so that was probably the last of her vacations untill next summer or maybe near christmas

No, there should not be a limit. Would you want your freedoms and liberties taken away from you? It is her prerogative to take as much vacation as she desires. If you are unhappy with appointment availability you should see another therapist.
