There is more to do in Catalina than hike and eat seafood….there is kayaking, para-sailing, snorkeling, scuba diving, tour of the island, glass bottom boat, botanical gardens, miniature golf, movie theater, renting a golf cart, comedy club, and one night club (not salsa however), shopping, hanging at the beach, etc. Lots of cozy bed and breakfasts as well.

East compton is beatiful, the view is gorgeous at night. Theres plenty of entertainment at night!

Santa Barbara or Laguna Beach

Well, I was going to say go to Catalina Island but I am not sure about the active night life part….check with their Chamber of Commerce for the many scheduled activities there…You could try someplace in Santa Monica on or near the Beach. Don’t know anything about salsa clubs, but if the above chick is right, you could go over toward West Hollywood for dancing…Have a Blast….

If you don’t pick my answer, go with the person who suggested Catalina. I have been there, and it’s very romantic, but a little low on the night life side.

Long Beach has a pretty good night life, but I’ve always found the beaches to be filthy down there.

Santa Monica is a good choice, with a decent mix of beautiful beachfront and night life.

Further south, I think your best bets might be Huntington Beach (my personal fav), Newport Beach, Laguna Beach, and Dana Point. Sure, it’s a bit further, but isn’t your hubby worth it?

Catalina is fine for an hour or so, but not worth the ferry ride over unless you plan on staying a night. There isn’t much to do other than hike and eat at seafood restaurants.

If you want to be by the beach, stay in Santa Monica. Not sure how much money you have to spend, but Shutters is beautiful and romantic.

For salsa dancing, Alex de Silva has just opened a new club Club Palm Terrace on Fairfax just south of Melrose. 531 N. Fairfax.

You can also just search salsa dancing los angeles to find clubs.

I avoid Sunset - it’s super cheesy and busy. But I do know if you are a tourist, it’s sort of where you think you should go and almost lives up to what you think LA is like. Thing is, LA is nothing like that.

Downtown Hollywood is happening now. Friday and Saturday nights are busy like they haven’t been in decades.
