Ok, any trip in Vegas on New Year's is going to be expensive so except that now and start saving. Circus Circus is a horrible place - the strip is living proof of you get what you pay for. Station Casinos are good hotels, very nice actually. But all of the major hotels on the strip are great.

Plus the strip is closed off the nite of so having a nice hotel in the middle of the action will be completely worth it since transportation anywhere is not possible. So go for anything btw TI/Mirage (Spring Mountain) and NYNY/MGM(Tropicana).

If you are planning on being in Vegas for New Years Eve, it can get really expensive. I suggest coming either before Dec. 30 or after Jan. 1. If you must be here for New Years Eve, try one of the off strip hotels, like any of the Station Casinos. Their rates are more reasonable and they have great New Years Eve parties. Hotels on the strip and downtown are three times more expensive for New Years, plus the cost of the parties can be extremely high.
So check out the Station Casinos, everything is cab-friendly.

The Circus Circus offers reasonable prices, even better during the week. I think Sunday thru Thursday might be like 40 dollars a night. It is on the strip and if you have children, there is gaming also. The stratosphere is also real cheap and nice. The high end hotels are Venetian, Bellagio and the Wynn. Good Luck
