They will get the same amount of vacation that other employees of the city or county get, Probably two weeks a year to start increasing to three and four based on years on the force.

Almost all police officers are union, so the vacation would be determined by the union contract, which is negotiated.
Our department gets 8 days your first year, and 14 days your second year through your fifth year.
You also have the option of taking your overtime in compensatory (comp) time. For every hour overtime, you get 1 1/2 hours comp time. The newer officers usually do this to supplement their vacation.
You would have to call the department you are interested in to see what their contract allows.
